Tribute Acts
I was surprised, no, mildly shocked, that a Dire Straits tribute band (Money for Nothing) are charging up to £42.50 for their concert, or should I say show, in Oxford.

That's a lot of money to watch a bunch of blokes that are very good at karaoke.

Friday night rant over.

Aussie pink floyd have a full production that rivals some of the shows I do.

Re: Tribute Acts
Little Micks only charge a fiver

They are not very good though. You expect some hot young girls pretending to be a pop group but you get five Irish midgets singing the Irish rover and cockles and mussels on loop

The Pings of Leon are just a bunch on blokes pressing the button on microwaves from the restaurant chain.

Fill your fake boots.

I'm more shocked there's actually a Kasabian tribute band in existence. Good grief.

Re: Tribute Acts
I'm often surprised at how a band brand name will sell tickets, often when there may only be one original member left, sometimes not even one.

If the real Dire Straits reformed, how many people would have a clue about who else should be in the band other than Mark Knopfler?

Unless they perform on the bill at a festival I attend I wouldn’t cross the road to see a fucking tribute band

Re: Tribute Acts
I think they have their place, particularly if the originals are either finished or should have stopped years ago and many people never saw the original band.

I was too young to see Genesis with Peter Gabriel, but The Musical Box do astoundingly accurate recreations of early 70s Genesis shows. I think members of Genesis have seen them and said that TMB are better than they were back then!

I’m going to see Pearl Jamm next month. Only £10 for a ticket and at a nice small intimate venue where you don’t have to watch on a screen.

Re: Tribute Acts
We have a venue here called The Forum. It gets some really good tribute acts and costs 12 quid entry. Fab place

Who's up for forming a rap tribute act that makes everyone lose their shit?

Public Enema.

I don't know who is worse - the tribute bands or the people who pay to see them.....stay at home and put on an album of the original artist.

Re: Tribute Acts
Some friends of mine had a plan to form a mixed tribute band combining songs from three very similar bands which would have been called 'Deep Rainsnake'.

Never happened unfortunately.

Re: Tribute Acts
Seen one of two tribute acts where the musicians have been better than the originals they’re aping.

Australian Pink Floyd are nearly spit on musically.

Some of the old groups are still on the circuit and are as authentic as Triggers broom.
